e-sword help and info

  • 1. What is e-Sword (e)?

e-Sword (e) is a full-fledged software program that renders reading the Holy Bible in-depth extremely rewarding and easy. To help with your study, it comprises complete Bible texts in original languages (Hebrew and Greek texts) and multiple translations, and also related dictionaries and commentaries.

  • 2. Is the software free?

Yes, the application is free to download and use, despite being such a versatile program. It can be downloaded and installed easily, courtesy the self-extracting trait that’s built into the actual program. The software also presents a big collection of self-extracting add-on modules that can be downloaded too.

  • 3. Who is this program for?

This Bible study program is for people who like to read the Bible on a digital platform. These are people who usually cannot or don’t want to spend a lot of money on the program and not lose out on the functionality and versatility powerful Bible study programs are known for.

  • 4. What Bible modules must be added?

To install the application onto your computer, you would have to download the fundamental program module, including the King James Version and Strong’s dictionary and Strong’s numbers. For added versatility, you can add more Bibles to the e-Sword program. The free Bible modules include Young’s Literal Translation, ASV, Good News Translation, Weymouth New Testament, etc.

  • 5. What are the commentaries that can be downloaded?

Besides Bibles, the commentaries that could be downloaded and appended to the e-Sword program for free are Albert Barnes’ Notes, Jamieson, Adam Clarke’s Commentary, Matthew Henry’s Commentary, Vincent’s Word Studies, Robertson’s Word Pictures (New Testament), etc.

  • 6. What are the dictionaries that can be added?

The e-Sword program can be further supplemented by several free dictionaries. The list encompasses Thayer’s Greek Definitions, Easton’s Bible Dictionary, Nave’s Topical Bible, International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, etc. If you have another dictionary in mind, e-Sword would most likely work with that too.

  • 7. What is the screen layout like?

e-Sword’s basic screen layout has three different windows. One window displays Bible text. The other two display commentary and dictionary, respectively. If you want, you can have the entire Bible text displayed on the whole screen with the click of a button. You can create the same whole-screen output for commentaries and dictionaries too.

  • 8. How is the ‘search’ functionality?

Searching within the e-Sword program is speedy and easy, and the functionality is supported in all versions of the Bible. Searches could be performed either by a phrase or word, and can also be restricted just to the New Testament, Old Testament, or the whole Bible. The search functionality works in dictionaries and commentaries too.

  • 9. Does the program support comparing different Bible verses?

Yes, and it is also quite easy to compare a specific Bible verse from an installed Bible within the program, thanks to the ‘compare’ tab. In case you want to make side-by-side comparisons, you may hit the ‘parallel’ tab to have the passages displayed from multiple Bible translations.

  • 10. Does the program support printing?

You can copy dictionary, Bible, or commentary text to a printer. The process is quite straightforward. Also, it is fairly easy to create personalized notes and have them accompany the Bible verses. If desired, you can also print the notes – with or without the accompanying text.
